On January 31, 2018, the Iranian parliament (Majles) ratified the national budget bill for 2018 after making changes to the original bill presented by Rouhani administration - the Majles had taken the unique step of initially rejecting the bill just three days earlier. The main change was an increase to the amount of direct government subsidies to citizens.
