The administration of Hassan Rouhani announced regulations in late 2014 to begin implementing the "Law on Publication and Free Access to Information." This new law will require the government to release more data and information to the public. Specific provisions of the law will require government institutions to respond to requests for information within 10 days and instruct government institutions that provide a public service to release annual performance assessments. If fully implemented, citizens would have more access to information such as the duties and responsibilities of government institutions, and the processes and terms in which services are to be directly provided to the public. Citizens and civil society organizations can use this information to support of their efforts to advocate for a more accountable and transparent government, and push for reforms that are responsive to citizen’s.
