Map: Availability of Election Results by Constituency for Iran’s 2020 Parliamentary Elections

Availability of Election Results by Constituency for Iran’s 2020 Parliamentary Elections

On February 21, Iran held its eleventh parliamentary elections since the Islamic revolution of 1979. Having witnessed the lowest voter turnout since the establishment of the Islamic republic (see the map of participation rates per provinces here), the government broke with tradition and did not publish the following details of the election results for all constituencies: voter turnout by constituency, election results by constituency, eligible voters by constituency, total number of ballots cast, and total number of valid votes. The Ministry of Interior (MOI) only published the overall turnout percentage in the country and unofficial turnout rates per province. The lack of public and verified information calls into question the validity of the results.

Nabz-Iran has compiled a dataset of the election results at the constituency level based on available press releases, available copies of “Form 78” (the formal statement of election results at the constituency level), and data published on the websites of local governors.

This map series details the availability of results of Iran’s 2020 parliamentary elections by constituency. Each map presents the availability of each of the following categories:

  1. Is the number of eligible voters available?
  2. Is a copy of the Form 78 publicly available?
  3. Is the turnout rate available by constituency?
  4. Is the total number of votes available by constituency?
  5. Is the total number of valid votes cast available by constituency?

The main map aggregates these points to rate electoral districts based on the amount of election results made available.

Nabz-Iran has other maps based on the dataset of available results which can be found here:
